Theo Law
Theo Law is the AI paralegal workspace. Every matter is one file — documents, deadlines, drafts, the calendar, the bills, the mail — with a legal assistant in it that reads the file before it answers. It lives in the Law workspace (the workspace switcher → Theo Law, or /law) and has its own site at theolaw.ai.
The plan, and how to get it
- Priced per person. $74.99 per person / month, or $62.49 per person / month billed annually. A firm buys one seat per person and can add or release seats at any time from /law/team.
- Its own subscription. Theo Law is billed separately from your OpenCharts plan and works alongside any of them — including the free plan. Buying it never changes your base plan, and cancelling it never touches your base plan either.
- Where to buy. Open /law/upgrade (or pick Theo Law in the workspace switcher). Choose monthly or annual and the number of seats; checkout runs on Stripe and the workspace opens the moment the payment confirms.
- Credits. AI usage draws on your OpenCharts account’s monthly credits, as everywhere else on the platform. A busy practice on the free plan may want a plan or a credit pack for more.
- Cancel from Settings → Billing → the Theo Law row. Your matters, documents and drafts stay in your account; new firm work needs the plan again.
What it includes
- Matters & clientsA file per matter — parties, court, deadlines, chronology, documents, drafts, audit — and a client record with conflict checks, intake, and a public intake form at
/law/intake/<firm>. - Theo ESQThe legal assistant. On a matter it reads the documents, searches the web, verifies citations and proposes drafts, deadlines and chronology entries you accept in one click. See Theo ESQ.
- The document vaultBulk-upload PDFs, Office files, images and text. Theo searches inside them, passage by passage, in an index dedicated to your matters and never shared with anything public.
- Drafting & Documents (e-signature)Memos, briefs, motions, letters and engagement agreements, with Word and PDF export. Documents builds an agreement, places the signature fields, sends it, collects signatures and keeps the executed copy.
- Calendar & deadlinesCourt-rule deadlines computed from the trigger date and cited to the rule, appointments with email reminders and client RSVPs, and meeting agendas Theo drafts from the file.
- MailConnect the Gmail or Outlook mailbox you already use. Every client thread is filed on its client and matter; Theo summarises and drafts replies in your voice. You send.
- Ideation canvasAn infinite board per matter or client for case theory — cards, files, links, images — with Theo on the board.
- Translate & interpretTranslate a matter document into another language (saved as a draft, disclaimer attached), or run a live interpreted conversation with bilingual captions.
- Your firm, by the seatInvite the people you practise with, assign a seat and a role — partner, associate, paralegal, staff, billing — and manage all of it from one roster.
- Verified citationsAuthorities Theo cites are checked against public case-law records and shown as verified or unverified. A citation that cannot be found is treated as a warning, never a fact.
- Audit logEvery prompt, tool call, citation, document touch, designation and deadline change is appended to a hash-chained ledger per matter. Verify the chain from the matter’s Audit tab.
Matters
Create one from /law/cases with “New matter”. Drop the complaint or a filing onto the dialog and Theo fills in the case number, court, jurisdiction, parties and a one-paragraph summary for you to confirm before saving. Each matter opens to a workbench — Documents, Research, Drafts, Chronology, Deadlines, Discovery, Calendar, Canvas, Time & billing, Audit, Settings — and its own Theo window pinned to the file.
Clients
Every matter is pinned to a client at /law/clients. A client opens to a workbench with the relationship, the conflicts record, billing details, every linked matter, agreements, fees, communications and private notes. A newly added client starts on a short intake checklist: the conflict search runs, you record the determination, and — with Documents — the engagement letter is prepared, sent and signed from the same place.
Theo ESQ
Theo ESQ is available with any OpenCharts account at /law/esq — research, your own uploads, personal drafts — without a Theo Law subscription. The plan is what gives it the firm: fresh matter and client context, matter documents as attachments, the calendar and finance scopes, and the workspace actions it can propose. The full guide is at Theo ESQ.
Court rules
The deadline engine ships three rule sets today — Federal (FRCP), S.D.N.Y. local rules and California (CCP). Pick the rule and the trigger date and the due date is computed in the right calendar mode (calendar, business or court days) with the controlling authority cited beside it, so the math can always be checked. Any deadline can also be entered by hand.
Privilege, by construction
- Nothing is filed, designated or sent without a click. Theo proposes a draft, a deadline, a privilege designation or a reply; an attorney accepts it. There is no server path that writes any of those on its own.
- Matter documents live in their own index, filtered by firm and by matter at the source, and a deleted document’s text is purged from it when the document is deleted.
- Mail is read, never quoted into a log. A worker running your inbox names a conversation; it does not copy it into a report, and it never sends.
- Everything is on the ledger — including what Theo read. On a privileged matter, what the assistant opened is itself a discoverable fact.
Access & requirements
- The planThe firm workspace needs an active Theo Law subscription or a seat in a firm that has one. Personal Theo ESQ needs only an account.
- Your creditsAI work in Theo Law draws on your OpenCharts account’s monthly credits. Recording, interpretation and document classification are metered by the minute or the document and say so before they run.
- English, by designThe Law workspace is English in every UI language; the surrounding OpenCharts chrome follows your language setting.
- Not legal adviceTheo Law surfaces AI-assisted research and drafting. It is not a substitute for legal advice; every output should be reviewed by a licensed attorney before filing.
